Tarsar Marsar Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Srinagar To Aru Valley

Drive Duration: 3-4hrs

Welcome to Srinagar. Your odyssey to paradise on earth starts from this historic place. We will pick you up from the TRC, Srinagar at 8AM sharp and will drive to Aru Valley.

Our today’s stay will be at homestay or hotel.

We will use this day for briefing, getting to know each other and preparing for the next day trek.

Day 2: Trek from Aru (2426m) to Lidderwat ( 2780m)

Trek Duration : 4-5hrs

Today’s trail on the way is a pleasant one, with the easy uphill ascent.

We will be walking  alongside the River Lidder initially, which directly connects to the village.

The trail will lead into a cluster of Fir trees and then to a large clearing, Dalla near Gujjar huts. The trail is just a nice, pleasant walk on the bare ground through the dense pine forest from Dalla.

The same trail will continue, the forest evanescing behind and pretty little Gujjar huts and families in the view ahead. They are friendly people on horseback taking care of their everyday chores.

From there, the trail picks up an ascent gently.

Half an hour later, come to two divergingstreams.Lidderwat, from here, is another hour’s walk.

Day 3: Trek from Lidderwat to Shekwas ( 3445m)

Trek Duration : 5-6hrs.

There will be many ascending and then crossing a river in between and some connecting plain terrains.

On day three, the trial starts from PDA huts in line with the river Lidder and takes us to a pine forest.

The track is in a straight line, without much difficulty. After some time, the pine cluster will open up to complete and sweeping grassland intersecting towering mountains, creating a cozy valley, adorned with snow patches here and there. The trail diverts into many small valleys and converges upwards toward the Bhakarwal Shelters by the river’s right side.

The trail has many clear streams running to refill water bottles.

Take a short break at the Gujjar huts there where tea and delicious savories are offered..

The Shekhwas is an undulating meadow-land, reached by meandering paths crossing two green valleys and surrounded by dark snow patched mountains.

This is one of the best camping sites of the Tarsar Marsar trek

Day 4: Trek from Shekwas to Tarsar (3790m)

Trek Duration : 4hrs

The day starts from Shekhwas Meadow and trails through a snake-like  path in the grassland for quite some time before it reaches Sumbal

Here, the path to Tarsar takes on a ridge on top of the stream.

Two hours later, after crossing some spectacular views from different ridges in line with the western trail, arrive at a conical hill-top that might guide to get a glimpse of the pretty Tarsar, the beautiful almond-shaped lake.

The adrenalin rushed walk to reach the lake starts from here.

Cross the stream with the help of fastened rocks and boulders and then finally on the grassland of Tarsar

The lake turns into a magnificent shade of turquoise blue at night, glistening like precious stones in the lap of snow-covered mountains. That is going to be worthy of all the long hiking and walked done in the previous days.

Day 5: Trek from Tarsar to Sundersar ( 3945m) Via Tarsar Pass (4005m)

Trek Duration  : 5-6hrs

The view from the other side of the Tarsar pass is another terrific attraction. The grassy valley stretches out from your left to right in a never-ending stretch of beauty that boggles the imagination. Even the anticipation of your walk on the valley floor is enough to set the heart racing.

We will camping today on the lovely shores of Sundersar lake.

Day 6: Trek from Sundersar to Homwas (2435m)

Trek Duration : 6-7hrs

Earyly Moring we will be vising Marsar Lake. Marsar is a hidden beauty, almost always engulfed under dollops of clouds and mist. Almost as large as Tarsar, Marsar is similar looking. Tall, snow-lined cliffs rise off the lake. On the left, the overrun waters of the lake run down a lovely green valley towards Traal.

We will retrace your steps to Jagmargi valley.. Instead of crossing the Tarsar pass, we take a different route to Shekwas. Roughly an hour of walking from Shekwas to Homwas.  We are expected to reach Homwas just in time for lunch. Camp at Homwas for the night.

Day 7: Trek Homwas to Aru. Drive to Srinagar

Trek Duration : 5-6hrs

Drive Duration : 3-4hrs

We start a bit early today. We will  take the same route that you had taken at the beginning of the trek via Lidderwat. The trail goes downhill and it is a quick descent. It will take you 2 hours from Homwas to Lidderwat.

Stop for lunch en route, we are expected to reach Aru by 3 in the evening. Vehicles will be arranged from Aru to Srinagar. You will reach Srinagar between 7-8 pm.
