Deoriatal Chandrashilla Trek : Overview

The Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek is a captivating journey in the Indian Himalayas, offering trekkers a blend of natural beauty, spirituality, and adventure. Starting from the quaint village of Sari, the trail ascends through dense forests, lush meadows, and scenic ridges, leading to the sacred Tungnath Temple, one of the highest Shiva temples in the world. The final push to Chandrashila summit rewards trekkers with a breathtaking 360-degree view of some of the most majestic peaks in the Himalayas, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Kedarnath. The trek is suitable for beginners and seasoned trekkers alike, providing an unforgettable experience of serene landscapes, cultural insights, and panoramic vistas.

Deoriatal Chandrashilla Itinerary

Day 1: Reach Sari, base camp for Deoriatal Chandrashila

Drive: 8-10hrs 

Sari is 8-10hrs drive from Dehradun. We will arrgane transport to Sari from Dehradun. The vehicles leave at 6.00 am from Dehradun Railway Station.The cost is shared among the trekkers.

We will come across many confluences of rivers and spectacular landscapes all along the drive.

Once we reach Sari,we will take a rest and stay overnight in guest house. Dinner will be served at night and in order to have an ample amount of rest, we will suggest you sleep early.

Day 2: Trek from Sari ( 1909m ) to Deoriatal ( 2393m))
        Time : 2hrs

Today is short day. The trail is considered to be easy with a combination of ascent and descent. After breaskfast we will start the trek. The trail is well-defined all the way to Deoriatal.

At the end of the trek, your surroundings open up to a grand view of Deoriatal, with Mt. Chaukhambha in the background.

Day 3: Trek for Deoriatal to Syalmi ( 2303m )
        Time : 6-7hrs

Today is a bit long day. You will walk through beautiful forest. After 4-5hrs of trek you reach Rohini bugyal, the beautiful meadows. In the month of March and April, the trail is blazing with red and pink flowers of rhododendron. Today is the day to watch out for birds on trail. The Syalmi campsite is just another 1hr from the rohini bughyal.

Day 4: Trek from Syalmi to Chopta ( 2651m)
        Trek time : 4-5hrs

After a long day 3 trek, we will be have a short day today. The trail descends all the way to Akash Kamini, a rivulet coming from Chandrashila. After crossing it  trail gradually ascends. You will see shepherd huts made out of stones

Day 5: Chopta to Tungnath and Chandrashila ( 12058ft ) and back to Chopta
         Time : 7-8hrs

Today will a long day from gradual to steep ascents.We will start the trek before sunrise. The trek from Chopta to Tungnath is accessible via a cemented pilgrim trail. The trek up to Tungnath temple is approximately 3 km. From Tungnath the steep ascent starts till the Chandrashila peak.

Once at the top of the peak, you get a 360-degree view of the mountains of Garhwal and Kumaon. Walk past a temple and see some great mountains of Uttarakhand, like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nandaghunti, Kamet, Dunagiri, Chaukhamba, Kedar dome, Thalaysagar, Gangotri ranges, Jahanukut and more.

 

Day 6: Drive from Sari/Chopta to Dehradun
        Drive : 8-9hrs

Drive back to Dehradun. We will arrange transport from Sari/Chopta to Dehradun. The vehicles leave at 6.00 am from.The cost is shared among the trekkers.

  • Please do carry a photo identity card with you
  • Do not book your return train/flight from Dehradun on the day 6 itself. 
  •  Please note that while we endeavor to assist all our clients in achieving their goals, there may be times your leader makes the decision to either delay or stop your ascent based on your medical conditions and AMS symptoms.

The trek starts from the village of Sari, which is accessible by road from Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun. The nearest railway station is in Haridwar, and the nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun

What kind of weather can I expect during the trek?

The weather varies with the season. Summer (March to June) offers pleasant temperatures, while autumn (September to November) has clear skies and cool weather. Winters (December to February) can be very cold with snowfall, making the trek more challenging but also more scenic.
